Introduction

Vector-borne diseases represent a significant public health challenge, particularly in the Balkan region, where diverse ecosystems and varying socio-economic conditions contribute to their spread and impact. The Task Force of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, established by the BAVBD, plays a pivotal role in addressing these challenges. Our mission and vision statements reflect our commitment to scientific excellence, collaborative effort, and the well-being of the communities we serve.

Mission Statement

The Task Force of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is dedicated to leading the “charge” against vector-borne diseases in the Balkans through comprehensive research, surveillance, and intervention strategies. Our mission is to harness the power of epidemiological data and biostatistical analyses to inform public health decisions, policies, and practices. By fostering a multidisciplinary approach, we aim to build a robust evidence base that supports effective disease control measures, enhances community resilience, and guides health system strengthening.

Central to our mission is the commitment to innovation, excellence, and collaboration. We strive to:

·       Conduct research that uncovers new insights into the epidemiology of vector-borne diseases.

·       Develop and refine statistical models that enhance our understanding of disease dynamics and risk factors.

·       Work closely with local, national, and international partners to translate our findings into actionable public health strategies.

·     Educate and engage communities in prevention and control efforts, empowering them with the knowledge to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Vision Statement

Our vision is a future where vector-borne diseases no longer pose a threat to the health and well-being of the Balkan populations. We aspire to be a leading force in the global effort to mitigate the impact of these diseases, driven by innovation, evidence, and equity. By achieving our mission, we envision a region characterized by:

·       Strong public health infrastructure capable of effective disease surveillance, rapid response, and comprehensive management.

·       Communities that are informed, engaged, and resilient, actively participating in prevention and control initiatives.

·      Policies and practices grounded in rigorous scientific research, ensuring the most effective and sustainable interventions are implemented.

·       Cross-border collaborations that leverage shared knowledge, resources, and strategies to combat vector-borne diseases.

Conclusion

The Task Force of Epidemiology and Biostatistics stands at the forefront of the fight against vector-borne diseases in the Balkan region. Our mission to advance scientific understanding and guide public health action, coupled with our vision of a healthier future, defines our path forward. Through dedication, collaboration, and innovation, we are committed to reducing the burden of these diseases and achieving lasting impact. Together, with our partners and communities, we look forward to a future where vector-borne diseases are no longer a barrier to health and prosperity in the Balkans.
